Advisory: Watch Out for Telegram Impersonation Scams

tjeso.my

The Singapore Police Force (SPF) has observed an increase in scam sites impersonating Telegram, with URLs like tjeso.my being reported. Scammers use these fake sites to trick you into revealing personal information or login credentials.

Here's how to recognise this scam:

  • You receive a message, seemingly from Telegram or a contact, asking you to click on an unfamiliar link to 'verify' your account or access a special offer.
  • The link provided leads to a website that looks like Telegram but has a suspicious web address (e.g., tjeso.my) instead of the official telegram.org or t.me.

If you encounter such a scam or suspect you might have been affected, remember to ACT:

  1. Add security features: Enable Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) for your Telegram account and all other online accounts. This adds an extra layer of protection even if your password is compromised.
  2. Check for scam signs: Always verify the legitimacy of any link or request. Official Telegram links will always begin with telegram.org or t.me. Never click on suspicious links.
  3. Tell authorities, family and friends: If you have provided your details on a fake site, change your password immediately. Report the scam to Telegram and inform the Police. Share this information with your loved ones to protect them too.
