Advisory: Beware of Shell-Branded Investment Scams

shell-vip.com

The Singapore Police Force (SPF) has observed a recent trend of investment scams impersonating legitimate companies, including Shell. These scams typically involve fraudulent websites or platforms that lure victims with promises of high returns from exclusive investment opportunities.

How to Recognise These Scams:

  • Be cautious of unsolicited messages or websites promoting exclusive investment opportunities, especially those promising high returns with little risk. Legitimate investments usually carry risks.
  • Always verify the website's legitimacy. Scammers often use unofficial or slightly altered domain names (e.g., shell-vip.com) that do not match the official company's website.

What to do if you are affected:

If you suspect you have fallen victim to such a scam:

  1. Contact your bank immediately to report any unauthorised transactions and stop further funds transfers.
  2. Report the incident to the Police at 999 or submit an online report at www.police.gov.sg/iwitness.
  3. Change any compromised passwords for your online accounts.

Remember, the "I can ACT against scams" campaign encourages you to:

  • Add security features to your devices and accounts.
  • Check for scam signs and verify information with official sources.
  • Tell authorities, family, and friends about scams.
