The Singapore Police Force (SPF) advises the public to be vigilant against a new phishing scam trend impersonating the Land Transport Authority (LTA). We have observed multiple reports of scam sites attempting to trick individuals into revealing their personal and financial information.
Here’s how to recognise these scams:
- Always check the website address. Official LTA websites will always use
lta.gov.sg. Scammers use similar-looking but fake URLs, such as vrllta.cfd, to deceive you.
- Be wary of unexpected messages (e.g., SMS, emails) asking you to click on links or provide sensitive personal details like your Singpass ID, bank account information, or credit card numbers. LTA will not ask for such sensitive information via unsolicited messages or unfamiliar platforms.
If you have encountered such a scam site or provided your details:
- Immediately change your passwords for any accounts that might be compromised.
- Notify your bank if you have provided any banking or credit card details.
- Report the incident to the police.
Remember, you can ACT against scams:
- Add security features (e.g., Two-Factor Authentication for your accounts).
- Check for scam signs and verify information with official sources.
- Tell authorities, family, and friends about scams.
