Advisory: Scam Websites Impersonating The Straits Times for Fake Investments

strikeathletics.pro

The Singapore Police Force has observed an increase in scam websites impersonating The Straits Times to promote fake investment opportunities. These sites are designed to trick you into believing they are legitimate news articles endorsing investment schemes.

How to recognise this scam:

  • Suspicious Website Addresses: Scam websites use unusual or unfamiliar URLs (e.g., strikeathletics.pro) that do not belong to The Straits Times, even if they display the newspaper's logo or branding prominently.
  • Unrealistic Investment Promises: They promote investment schemes that promise high returns in a short period, often claiming to be endorsed or reported on by The Straits Times to gain your trust.

What to do if affected:

If you encounter such a website or advertisement, do not click on any links, provide personal details, or transfer any money. If you suspect you have already provided your banking details or transferred money, contact your bank immediately to stop transactions and report the incident to the Police.

Remember to 'ACT' against scams:

  • Add security features like two-factor authentication.
  • Check for scam signs and verify information with official sources.
  • Tell authorities, family and friends about scams.
