The Singapore Police Force has observed a recent surge in phishing scams where fraudsters impersonate the Land Transport Authority (LTA).

Scammers are creating fake websites and sending messages designed to trick the public into revealing personal and banking details. These scams often claim to be related to road tax payments, fines, or other vehicle-related services.

How to recognise these scams (ACT against scams: Check for scam signs):

  • Scammers create fake websites or messages that mimic the Land Transport Authority (LTA), often prompting you to take urgent action regarding vehicle road tax, fines, or other services.
  • These unofficial websites use suspicious URLs (website addresses) that are not www.lta.gov.sg. They may end with unusual domains like .cam, .top, or contain misspellings of LTA's name. Always inspect the full URL carefully before clicking or entering any information.

What to do if you are affected (ACT against scams: Tell authorities, family and friends):

If you suspect you have fallen victim to such a scam or have provided your personal/banking details on a suspicious website:

  1. Contact your bank immediately to report any unauthorised transactions or to block your account/card.
  2. Change passwords for all your online accounts, especially if you used similar credentials on the scam site.
  3. Report the incident to the Police immediately by calling 999 or submitting a report online at www.police.gov.sg/iwitness.
  4. Inform your family and friends about the scam to protect them from falling victim as well.
