Beware of Phishing Scams Impersonating Land Transport Authority (LTA)

unpid.com

The Singapore Police Force warns the public about a rise in phishing scams impersonating the Land Transport Authority (LTA). Scammers are attempting to trick individuals into revealing personal and financial information.

Here's how to recognise these scams:

  • Scammers pretend to be the LTA, often sending unsolicited messages (e.g., via SMS) that may contain urgent requests or claims related to road tax, fines, or vehicle matters.
  • They direct you to fake websites (such as unpid.com) designed to look like LTA's official page, asking for your personal details, login credentials, or banking information.

Here's how you can ACT against these scams:

  • Check for scam signs: Always verify the authenticity of any message claiming to be from LTA. Check official LTA sources directly (e.g., their official website www.lta.gov.sg) and never click on suspicious links provided in messages. Official LTA communications will usually direct you to www.lta.gov.sg or onemotoring.lta.gov.sg for transactions.
  • Add security features: Enable Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) for your online accounts and use strong, unique passwords. This adds an extra layer of protection even if your details are compromised.
  • Tell authorities, family and friends: If you encounter such a scam, report it to the police immediately. Inform your family and friends about this scam to prevent them from falling victim.

If you have already provided your personal or banking details on a suspicious website:

  • Change your passwords for affected accounts immediately.
  • Monitor your bank statements for any unauthorised transactions and notify your bank if you spot any.
  • Report the incident to the police.
