The Singapore Police Force (SPF) has observed a trend of phishing scams impersonating the Land Transport Authority (LTA). These scams involve fake websites designed to look like official LTA portals, aiming to trick individuals into revealing personal or financial information.
Here’s how to recognise these scams and protect yourself:
- Scrutinise Website Addresses (URLs): Always check the full website address carefully. Scammers use URLs that look very similar to official LTA websites but contain subtle differences (e.g.,
lta-gov.com or govl.top). The official LTA website is www.lta.gov.sg.
- Be Wary of Unexpected Requests: LTA will typically direct you to their official website or app for transactions. Be suspicious of unsolicited messages (SMS, email, social media) asking for personal details, login credentials, or payment, even if they appear to be from LTA.
What to do if you were affected:
If you suspect you have fallen victim to such a scam or have provided your details on a fake LTA website:
- Immediately change any passwords or PINs that might have been compromised.
- If you disclosed banking details, contact your bank immediately to monitor your accounts or cancel your cards.
- Report the incident to the Police. You can do this online at www.police.gov.sg/iwitness or by calling the Police Hotline at 1800-255-0000.
- Inform your family and friends about the scam to prevent them from falling victim.
