Advisory: Beware of Phishing Scams Impersonating IRAS

iras.nakadaniko.com.sg

The Singapore Police Force has observed a recent rise in phishing scams impersonating the Inland Revenue Authority of Singapore (IRAS). Scammers are sending messages containing suspicious links that direct users to fake IRAS websites. These fraudulent sites are designed to trick you into revealing your personal and banking details.

How to recognise this scam:

  • Look out for suspicious URLs. Official IRAS websites always end with iras.gov.sg (e.g., www.iras.gov.sg). Scammers use variations like iras.nakadaniko.com.sg to deceive you.
  • Be wary of unsolicited messages (SMS or email) claiming to be from IRAS, especially those asking you to click on a link to claim tax refunds or update your account.

What to do if you encounter or are affected by this scam (I can ACT against scams):

  • Adding security features: Always enable Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) for your Singpass and other online accounts where possible.
  • Checking for scam signs:
    • Always verify the sender's details and URL before clicking any links. If in doubt, do not click.
    • Cross-check any suspicious claims by visiting the official IRAS website at www.iras.gov.sg or calling their official hotline.
  • Telling authorities, family and friends:
    • If you have clicked on a suspicious link or provided your details, immediately report it to your bank and change any compromised passwords for accounts where these credentials were used.
    • Report the scam to the Police via www.police.gov.sg/iwitness or call the Anti-Scam Hotline at 1800-722-6688. Inform your family and friends about this scam.
