The Singapore Police Force would like to alert the public to a rise in phishing scams impersonating the Home Team Science & Technology Agency (HTX). These scams often involve fake websites designed to trick you into revealing personal or financial information.
Here's how to recognise these scams:
- Always check the website address. Scammers use suspicious URLs (e.g.,
qer012.online) that look similar but are not the official HTX website. Official HTX websites will have htx.gov.sg in their address.
- Be wary of unsolicited messages or links that ask for your personal details (like login IDs, passwords, or bank account information). Official agencies like HTX will never ask for such sensitive information through unverified links.
Here's how you can ACT against scams:
- Check for scam signs: Always verify information with official sources. If you receive a message or encounter a website claiming to be from HTX, verify its authenticity through the official HTX website (www.htx.gov.sg) or Gov.sg. Do not click on suspicious links.
- Add security features: Enhance your online security by enabling Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) for all your online accounts, where available. This adds an extra layer of protection.
- Tell authorities, family and friends: If you've provided your personal or banking details on a suspicious site, change your passwords immediately and inform your bank to monitor your accounts for any unauthorised transactions. Report the incident to the police. Share this advisory with your loved ones to protect them from similar scams.
