The Singapore Police Force has observed a trend of job scams impersonating well-known brands like Shopee. Scammers entice victims with fake job opportunities that promise high returns for simple tasks. These scams often direct victims to fraudulent websites with unofficial URLs.
How to recognise these scams:
- Be wary of unsolicited job offers, especially those promising high commissions for simple tasks (e.g., "boosting sales" or "liking products"). These often require upfront payments or personal details.
- Always check the website address (URL) carefully. Official Shopee websites use domains like
shopee.sg or shopee.com, not unusual or slightly altered domains such as vis3367.shop.
If you suspect you have fallen victim to such a scam:
- ACT by immediately stopping all communication with the scammer.
- ACT by checking your bank accounts for unauthorised transactions and reporting them to your bank immediately.
- ACT by changing passwords for all your online accounts, especially if you have provided them to the scammer.
- ACT by telling authorities, family and friends about the scam to prevent them from falling prey. Report the incident to the police.
