The Singapore Police Force has observed a trend of investment scams operating through suspicious websites. These fraudulent sites often lure victims with promises of high returns and may even misuse the names of well-known, unrelated brands to appear legitimate. For example, some scams have recently misused the name of GOM Player, a media player, in their investment schemes. Scammers use obscure website addresses such as lumexafa.top and dnsyidzq.top to host these fraudulent platforms.
How to recognise these scams:
- Be cautious of investment opportunities that promise exceptionally high returns with little to no risk, especially if promoted through unsolicited messages or unfamiliar websites.
- Scammers often use suspicious website addresses that do not match official company domains or try to gain trust by associating themselves with unrelated brands for investment schemes.
If you suspect you've been affected, remember to ACT:
- Add security features: Immediately contact your bank to report any unauthorised transactions and secure your bank accounts. Change your passwords for all online accounts, especially those sharing similar credentials, and enable Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) wherever possible.
- Check for scam signs: Verify any suspicious transactions with your bank and monitor your accounts for further unusual activity.
- Tell authorities, family and friends: Report the incident to the Police immediately. Inform your family and friends about these scams to protect them.
