The Singapore Police Force warns the public about a rise in investment scams where fraudsters create fake websites and platforms to impersonate legitimate companies. These scams aim to trick individuals into investing in non-existent schemes. For instance, we have observed fake investment sites like currency-oil.com attempting to impersonate Saudi Aramco, offering what appear to be attractive investment opportunities.
Here's how to recognise such scams:
- Scammers design convincing but fake websites and platforms that mimic reputable companies. Always check the website's URL carefully; official company websites will have legitimate domain names, not suspicious ones like
currency-oil.com.
- Be highly suspicious of unsolicited investment offers, especially those guaranteeing exceptionally high returns with little to no risk. Legitimate investments always carry a degree of risk.
If you believe you have fallen victim to such a scam:
- Stop all communication with the scammers immediately. Do not make any further payments or provide more personal details.
- Report the incident to the police.
- Inform your bank promptly to freeze any potentially compromised accounts and prevent further losses.
- Tell your family and friends about the scam so they can also be aware and protect themselves.
