Scam Alert: Beware of Fake UnionPay 'Fund Recovery' Websites

victimfundsrecvery.com

The Singapore Police Force (SPF) observes a trend of fake websites impersonating UnionPay, claiming to help victims recover lost funds. These "fund recovery" scams often target individuals who have previously fallen victim to other scams, promising to retrieve their money.

Here's how you can ACT against these scams:

Check for scam signs:

  • Suspicious Website Addresses: Always verify that the website address is official. For instance, sites like "victimfundsrecvery.com" are not legitimate UnionPay domains and may contain misspellings. Official UnionPay websites will always use their verified domain names.
  • Unsolicited 'Fund Recovery' Offers: Be highly suspicious of any unsolicited offers or websites that claim to help you recover money lost in previous scams. Legitimate financial institutions or authorities typically do not offer such services through unofficial channels or request upfront payments for fund recovery.

Tell authorities, family and friends:

If you suspect you have encountered such a scam or have provided your details:

  1. Contact your bank immediately to secure your accounts if you have provided any personal or banking details, or made any payments.
  2. Report the incident to the Police via the National Crime Prevention Council (NCPC) Anti-Scam Hotline at 1800-722-6688 or submit a report online at www.police.gov.sg/iwitness.
  3. Inform your family and friends about this scam to prevent them from falling victim.
