The Singapore Police Force (SPF) has observed a recent trend of impersonation scams involving fake websites designed to look like official SPF platforms. Scammers use these fraudulent sites to trick the public into divulging sensitive information or performing actions that could lead to financial loss.
How to recognise this scam:
- Always check the website's URL carefully. Official SPF websites will always use domains ending with
police.gov.sg. Any other domain (e.g., sg-policectictr.com) is likely a scam.
- Be wary of unsolicited messages, emails, or pop-ups asking you to click on links and provide personal details, especially if they demand urgent action or threaten arrest.
If you receive a suspicious link or message claiming to be from SPF:
- Do not click on the link. Delete the message immediately.
- Do not provide any personal information, banking details, or One-Time Passwords (OTPs). Official SPF officers will never ask for such information over the phone or through unsecured channels.
- Verify with official sources. If unsure, contact SPF directly through the official SPF hotline at 1800-255-0000 or visit
www.police.gov.sg. Do not use contact details provided in suspicious messages.
- Report the scam. If you have disclosed your banking details, immediately notify your bank to suspend your accounts. Report the incident to the Police.
- Tell your family and friends about these scams to protect them.
