Advisory: Watch Out for Fake Online Shopping Deals (E-Commerce Scams)

zhaitwfo.com
behene.com

The Singapore Police Force has observed a trend of fake e-commerce websites designed to deceive shoppers with irresistible deals. These scam sites often mimic legitimate online stores and are designed to steal your money or personal information.

How to recognise these scams:

  • Websites offering unbelievably low prices or exclusive deals that seem too good to be true.
  • Generic or newly created websites with unusual URLs (e.g., zhaitwfo.com, behene.com) that do not match the brand they claim to represent.

What to do if you encounter or are affected by such scams:

  • Add security features: Do not save your credit card details on unfamiliar websites. Use strong, unique passwords and enable two-factor authentication for all your online shopping accounts where available.
  • Check for scam signs: Always verify the legitimacy of online stores, especially those with tempting offers. Look for secure payment gateways, genuine contact information, and positive reviews from trusted sources. Double-check the website's URL for irregularities or misspellings.
  • Tell authorities, family, and friends: If you suspect you've been scammed or have made a purchase on a fake website, immediately contact your bank to report the fraudulent transaction and monitor your bank statements for any unauthorised activities. Report the incident to the police. Warn your loved ones about such scam tactics to protect them.
