The Singapore Police Force warns the public about a recent surge in fake online investment scams. Scammers are creating deceptive websites and platforms, some masquerading as legitimate investment opportunities involving cryptocurrencies like USDT Tether or promoting unknown entities, promising extremely high and fast returns.
Here’s how to recognise these scams:
- Unrealistic Promises: Scammers often lure victims with investment plans offering returns that are too good to be true, often within a short period, especially with cryptocurrencies.
- Suspicious Platforms: You may be asked to download unknown investment applications or directed to unofficial, unfamiliar websites (e.g.,
river-quode.net, 980.it.com) to manage your supposed investments.
If you suspect you have fallen victim to such a scam:
- Stop all communication with the scammers immediately.
- Do not transfer any more money.
- Report the incident to your bank and the police.
Remember, you can ACT against scams:
- Add security features: Enable Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) for all your online accounts, especially banking and investment platforms.
- Check for scam signs: Always verify investment opportunities with official sources, such as the Monetary Authority of Singapore's (MAS) Investor Alert List. Be cautious of unsolicited messages and suspicious URLs.
- Tell authorities, family and friends: Share information about scams with your loved ones and report any suspicious activities to the authorities.
