Scam Alert: Fake LTA Websites Targeting the Public

g0v.hair
city-transit-billing.com

We've observed a recent trend of phishing scams using fake Land Transport Authority (LTA) websites to trick members of the public. These scam sites aim to steal your personal and financial information by impersonating official LTA services.

Here's how to recognise these scams:

  • Unofficial Website Addresses: Always check the website's URL. Legitimate LTA websites end with lta.gov.sg or onemotoring.lta.gov.sg. Scam websites often use suspicious or slightly altered addresses like g0v.hair or city-transit-billing.com.
  • Unsolicited Requests for Information/Payment: Scammers may send messages (e.g., SMS, email) with links to these fake sites, asking you to update details, pay fines, or settle alleged outstanding tolls, often creating a sense of urgency.

What to do if you encounter such scams or were affected: I can ACT against scams

  • Adding security features: Strengthen your online security by enabling Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) for your accounts whenever possible.
  • Checking for scam signs: Always verify the authenticity of websites and messages. Official LTA websites are lta.gov.sg and onemotoring.lta.gov.sg. Do not click on suspicious links. If in doubt, visit the official LTA website directly or contact them via official channels.
  • Telling authorities, family and friends: If you encounter such scam sites or messages, report them to the Police. If you have provided any banking details, contact your bank immediately to block any unauthorised transactions. Share this advisory with your loved ones to protect them too.
