The Singapore Police Force (SPF) has observed a trend of job scams, particularly those leveraging the TikTok platform. Scammers approach victims with attractive "work-from-home" opportunities or tasks such as liking TikTok videos, promising quick and easy money.
Here's how to recognise such scams:
- You receive unsolicited job offers, often promising high returns for minimal effort, sometimes involving "liking" videos or performing simple tasks on platforms like TikTok.
- You are directed to suspicious, unofficial websites (e.g., ending with
.shop, .my, or random characters) to register, complete tasks, or make payments for "commission" or "upgrades". These sites are designed to steal your information or money.
Protect yourself and others with ACT:
- Add security features: Enable two-factor authentication for your social media and banking accounts. Use strong, unique passwords. Do not click on suspicious links or download files from unknown sources.
- Check for scam signs: Always verify the legitimacy of job offers with official sources. Legitimate employers will not ask you to make payments, download unofficial apps, or provide sensitive personal details like bank account passwords for a job application.
- Tell authorities, family and friends: If you suspect you have fallen victim, immediately cease all communication with the scammer. Report the incident to the Police and inform your bank if you have shared financial details or made any transactions. Share this advisory with your loved ones to protect them.
