The Singapore Police Force (SPF) observes a concerning trend of investment scam websites. These fraudulent sites often impersonate well-known companies or promote high-return schemes, aiming to deceive individuals into investing their money.
How to recognise these scams:
- Suspicious Website Addresses: Scam websites often use URLs that look similar to legitimate companies (e.g., "oinbase-staking.com" instead of the official "coinbase.com") or feature unusual domain extensions like
.vip, .top, or .online that are not typically used by established financial institutions.
- Unrealistic Investment Promises: These scams frequently promise exceptionally high returns with little to no risk over a short period. Legitimate investments always carry a degree of risk, and offers that sound too good to be true usually are.
What to do if you are affected:
If you suspect you have encountered or fallen victim to such an investment scam:
- Cease Communication: Immediately stop all contact with the scammers and do not transfer any more money.
- Report to Police: Report the incident to the Police. You can do so by calling the Police Hotline at 1800-255-0000 or by submitting an online report at www.police.gov.sg/iwitness.
- Notify Your Bank: Alert your bank immediately to review any suspicious transactions and secure your bank accounts.
