The Singapore Police Force (SPF) has observed recent reports of investment scams, including those impersonating legitimate entities like 'Compass Mining'. Scammers lure victims with promises of high returns through fake websites and platforms.
How to recognise these scams:
- Scammers create deceptive websites and social media pages that mimic legitimate investment firms, often featuring unusual or slightly altered website addresses.
- They promote schemes promising unrealistically high, guaranteed returns in a short period, pressuring you to 'invest' quickly.
What to do if you encounter or are affected by such a scam:
If you encounter such an offer, remember "I can ACT against scams":
- Add security features: Enable Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) for all your online accounts and use strong, unique passwords.
- Check for scam signs: Verify the legitimacy of any investment opportunity with official sources, such as the company's official website or the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) Investor Alert List. Be wary of unsolicited offers and promises that sound too good to be true.
- Tell authorities, family and friends: If you suspect you have fallen victim, stop all communication and do not transfer any more money. Immediately contact your bank to freeze transactions and make a police report. Inform your loved ones about the scam to protect them.
