ACT Against Investment Scams: Verify Online Platforms and Offers

The Singapore Police Force warns the public about a rise in investment scams, often using fake websites that impersonate legitimate companies or financial institutions like "Citadel" or falsely claiming association with brands such as "Dell Player". These scams lure victims with promises of high returns and quick profits.

To ACT against such scams, start by Checking for scam signs:

  • Be wary of unsolicited investment offers promising unusually high returns in a short period – if it sounds too good to be true, it likely is.
  • Always scrutinise website URLs. Scammers often use slightly altered or unusual domain names (e.g., citadiel.com instead of citadel.com) to mimic legitimate companies.

If you suspect you have fallen victim to an investment scam:

  1. Stop all communication with the scammer immediately.
  2. Tell authorities: Report the incident to the police.
  3. Contact your bank or financial institution immediately to see if any transactions can be stopped.

Remember to Add security features: Enable Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) for all your accounts, especially financial ones, to protect them from unauthorised access.
